Regulatory Requirements

In the construction environment, it is easy to just let your contracted electrician quote and install ‘that blue data cable’ seemingly simple to do and easy to cover up, maybe one less contractor to worry about, but today’s I.T.cabling industry is government regulated and requires all I.T. cable installers have the correct training and certification to perform install works and we at MCT don’t take this fact lightly, we continually make a significant investment in the training and licensing and upkeep of skillsof our cabling install technicians, expensive fines are payable by the individual and the business if compliance of the rules as set by the ACA are not adhered to.

The certifications, rules and standards issued by the ACA and Australian International Standards are not only for the installation of data cables, but the installation of catenary and fixed wiring support systems, earthing and data rack cabinets and enclosures, cable trays, separation of data/phone cables from power and other services ensuring safety of life, risk of fire and equipment damage are mitigated. Electricians running data cabling are not exempt from this regulatory standard and will comply.

All completed cabling works require a TCA1 certificate, which confirms all cabling works carried out are up to the AS/ACIF S009 regulatory standard ensuring its safety and quality, this is a legal requirement.

Ask your electrician if he has an ACA license, because without the license, they cannot legally perform any data cabling works. Ask for the TCA1 certificate at the completion of the works. If they cannot provide a TCA1 certificate, then you have taken a very serious risk. It is considered unethical to demand or expect another cabling provider to issue a TCA1 certificate when they have not directly installed your cables.
