Airlie Beach is the mainland gateway to the 74 Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef, and the Whitsundays drew around 897,000 visitors in 2024. Tourism dominates the local economy, with accommodation the single largest employer and cafes and restaurants close behind.
